My Obsession with JUICE.

I recently had the absolute pleasure to photograph the dynamic dancers of the J.U.I.C.E. Hip Hop Dance Festival. You can learn about how JUICE contributes to our community, specifically with the youth, through arts at their website. Many many thanks to my friend Amy “Catfox” Campion, who got me into the dress rehearsal so I could shoot freely. What only my closest friends know (and now you) is that secretly I’m a break dance junkie…I have a really hard time walking past a street performance and at one point had TONS of bboy/bgirl clips on my hard drive (before it crashed – let’s not revisit that memory). Well, technically my obsession extends past break dancing into a variety of other dance art forms, but I always have a special kind of love for various hip hop styles. Also secretly (though I guess not anymore! :)) I want to learn how to break dance. Yeah, I know – a 30 year old teacher/photographer. Who cares!? I have never let myself be constrained by anyone else’s definitions of who I am or can be. So each time I see an amazing pop n lock performance or attend something like JUICE, I firmly promise myself that I will one day find the time and work up the courage to learn. Until then, I am all over any opportunity I can get to photograph dancers in their element.

Okay, enough about me. Take a look at what you missed out on 🙂 and you can see more images in this gallery.
