San Francisco Bay Area Portrait Photographer: Glamour Session: Amrita

She walked into my studio with her hair wrapped into a tight bun, wearing comfy loungey sweat pants. I am always in awe of women that can wear loungey sweatpants in a way that feels effortlessly sexy. They wake up with messy curls, smudged eyeliner and pajama pants and still look absolutely gorogeous. I can assure you, that is not the state I wake up in. There are times I think I do because I feel incredible after a wonderful night’s sleep…then I make my way over to the bathroom mirror, ha!

Amrita was an absolute joy to photograph. She let down her ombre hair and I squealed in delight (internally) as it fell down to her elbows. She came in looking just lovely and by the time we had taken her from a natural beauty to a smokey eyed goddess, I was ready to start shooting. Amrita was incredible in that she managed to give me a range of expressions from intensely connected to soft and demure.

I love starting my clients out in something a bit more casual chic – dark jeans and a classic white tee. It feels classic and effortless and gives the glamour portraits a modern feel. Plus it can feel a bit daunting to be in front of a camera. Starting with a more relaxed outfit allows my clients to get comfortable and really find their groove.

We then worked up to a fun sparkly top that was mainly silver but had hints of blue.

This is my absolute  favorite glamour portrait from Amrita’s session. I think it all came together beautifully with the lighting, posing, hair and makeup…and then she gave me this look! I don’t know who could say no to those eyes.

One of my favorite things to do is create portraits under the window and bounce the light back into their face. It creates a nice hair light and a really soft flat bounce back into their eyes and face.

I’ll end this post with another favorite, simply because I love black and white. Black and white portraits are moody and sexy and I make sure to shoot at least a few frames with black and white in mind.
