Art and Jazz at Leimert Park

Recently I stopped by one of my favorite locations in LA – Leimert Park. There is always something artistic and fun going in the area, not to mention some nice eateries. I just wish I was able to stop by more often! During this particular weekend there was a bazaar and jazz festival going on. I really had to resist buying anything – especially because there were some AMAZING jewelry booths –> my weakness. I managed 🙂

How cool is this anti-colonization chess board? 🙂

Esowon Books – the best place to get something to stimulate your mind. I saw this stained glass window and couldn’t help taking a picture.

The jazz part of the jazz festival 🙂 They had everyone movin’ and groovin’!

A quilt in one of the booths:

Ok. These earrings were LONG…like past your shoulders, halfway down your arms long. And I LOVED them – so funky fresh! I picked up a card in case I got that feeling when you decide not to buy something and regret it later:

DJ Ndebele was by far one the most bad ass artists at the festival. His work had a lot of mixed medium – newpaper clippings, acrylic, watercolor, and stuff I don’t even know a thing about! I would hang these in my house any day.

Some jewelry from Washakur Enterprises. It can be really difficult finding nice quality Islamic jewelry here in the United States. The brother had a much larger selection than I’m used to…so I spent about 30 minutes just looking over everything at his booth. He also had kufis, scarves and oils.

To end this post, I had to put up one my favorite images. How could I resist taking a picture in a very nice replica of the chair in the infamous Huey Newton picture?? I couldn’t obviously 🙂

Hi Fizzah — I love your photos from the art festival. I like the colors, composition and how you have captured so much of the culture in a few photos. I like the earrings too. If you decide to buy them, you’ve got to post.

Thanks Pam! If I give in to buying the earrings, I think for sure they deserve a whole post 🙂 What can I say, I’m obsessed!
