As a Nashville maternity photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of working with expectant mothers in varying stages of their pregnancy journey. Whether it’s your first baby or fifth, you have a lot to celebrate! And I know that there’s so much to prepare for when bringing a bundle of joy into the world – a whole human, how amazing are you!

Sometimes expecting moms miss the chance to get photos done because they don’t like the way they look, it doesn’t make their list of priorities, or the unexpected happens: your baby arrives a little earlier than planned.

That’s why I always preach that it’s never too early to schedule your maternity shoot because babies come on their own timelines. And that’s exactly what happened with our beautiful mom of the hour – Jesse.

Jesse delivered her first baby early and missed the opportunity for maternity photos. This time around, she scheduled her photoshoot a little earlier so she wouldn’t miss the opportunity. And it was a good thing she did because her second baby arrived early too!

Anyone that steps foot in my studio deserves to feel celebrated and pampered! And that’s why I always do my best to bring your visions to life! For Jesse’s shoot, she wanted a little bit of everything, so that’s exactly what we did.

Time to see how it all turned out!

ADVICE FROM A NASHVILLE MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHER – WHEN TO SCHEDULE YOUR MATERNITY SHOOT

You should start reaching out to your photographer when nearing the end of your first trimester. The sooner, the better, especially if you’re carrying multiples! Finding your photographer and scheduling your shoot early will give you plenty of time to prepare and plan out ideas for your photos.

With my clients, I try to get their maternity shoot on the books toward the end of their second or third trimester. Ideally, 30-35 weeks is a great time for most maternity photoshoots. The reason for this is that you’ll want to have a defined baby bump without reaching the point where you’re feeling exhausted easily. You should feel pretty and pampered for your shoot!

Here are a few dates to keep in mind when planning your maternity shoot:

  • Reach out to your photographer around the end of your first trimester.
  • Plan your shoot toward the end of your second trimester or early into your third trimester.
  • If you’re expecting multiples, discuss a personalized plan with your photographer.
  • Listen to your body and communicate with your photographer if you feel like you may need to come in earlier.

BRINGING YOUR MATERNITY SHOOT VISIONS TO LIFE WITH A NASHVILLE MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHER

Back to our mom of the hour, Jesse wanted a mix of everything for her maternity shoot. She wanted some feminine shots, some modern portraits, as well as some timeless and edgy looks. We had the best time putting it all together!

For her more feminine shots, Jesse really loved the look of our maternity gowns – beautiful, long, and flowy. To play into the modern look, we created some shots in a bodysuit that she looked absolutely fabulous in!

Quick side note: bodysuits are always such a beautiful and popular option if you’re not sure what to wear for your shoot!

For Jesse’s timeless and edgy portraits, she wanted to show off her tattoos (she’s tattooed down to her toes – love! And so fun to photograph), so we created elegant nude photos to showcase her pieces and to show off her edgier side.

Taking it up a notch, we got some other portrait shots of her in a mesh dress that was adorned with studded diamond pieces. This look was one fun and stunning way to show off her vibrant personality with a side of edginess!

We were able to play around with her different stylized portraits, all thanks to the client wardrobe I have in my studio.

Because each person gets a personalized photoshoot, I prioritize having an extensive client wardrobe that’ll work for everyone! I’ve got effortlessly flowing maternity gowns, draping materials in a variety of colors, beautiful maternity bodysuits, and more!

I’m all about making you feel as fabulous as you are, with or without the clothes. And being able to use items from my client closet for your maternity photos means you have one less thing to worry about before your photoshoot!

Your pregnancy journey is one to savor and celebrate because once they’re out of the oven, time flies! Before you know it, you’ll be wishing you had some portraits to take you back to the very beginning.
