Stand Out in Male-Dominated Industries with Professional Headshots for Women

Let’s call a spade a spade. The executive business world is still largely male-dominated. Although we’ve come a long way having women in executive roles, there is still room for improvement.

That’s why I’m passionate about helping my female-identifying clients break into the C-Suite careers of their dreams with professional headshots for women.

So how do you get noticed and stand out from your competition?

One way is your professional online presence. And that’s where great branding and headshot photos become an asset for your career.

Enhance Your Reputation with a Great First Impression

According to Forbes Magazine, you only have 7 seconds to make a first impression. A quality headshot is the easiest way to make a great first impression in the digital space.

Headshots enhance your reputation as a professional and reinforce your values, professionalism, and commitment to your career.

By using only the most polished photos, you’re sure to make a good impression amongst your clients and industry peers.

Components of Great Headshots and Branding Photos

When deciding how you want to be perceived in the professional space, consider using these tips to plan your headshots:

  • Wear a variety of clothing styles. You can’t go wrong with foundational basics like a nicely fitted blazer, suit, or dress. But I also like to spice things up with leather or bold colors. The idea is for us to create a range and show that you are multifaceted.

  • Wear neutral colors like black, white, navy, and grey. But if you’re looking to break out of the traditional headshot and branding look, don’t be afraid to add some bold colors and textures to showcase your personality. For example, jewel tones look great on almost every skin tone.

  • Jewelry as an accent – not as the focus. Jewelry can definitely add visual interest. Whether you like classic and minimalistic or bold statement jewelry, the rule of thumb is to make sure it accents but doesn’t overpower the look. The focus should be on you, not your accessories.

  • Use a variety of facial expressions and project confidence! This is where I shine – I love to direct and engage my clients with the most flattering poses and a variety of expressions.

  • Have a professional do your hair and makeup (this is included with all of my sessions!)

Femininity and Fashion in the Workplace

Women can be fashionable and feminine while also being professional. So don’t downplay your sense of style when planning your photoshoot wardrobe.

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing many high-powered executive women in tech, authors, and keynote speakers.

One thing they all had in common was wanting to express themselves as stylish, intelligent, confident, and feminine while ALSO being taken seriously in male-dominated industries.

If you look back at my recent work, especially this blog about the author and keynote speaker, Brittany Hodak, you can see that I embrace her feminine and fashionable sides while also creating photos that make her stand out professionally!

Professional headshots for women don’t have to be boring or stiff.

Experiment, show your style, and embrace your confidence!

Masculine Posing for Women and Female-Identifying People

One way I love to experiment and play with the idea that women also belong in highly male-driven workplaces is with masculine posing!

You can find examples of this in celebrity photoshoots and, more commonly now, women shattering patriarchal molds.

Masculine poses are fierce, powerful, and unapologetic! And I’m OBSESSED! Especially when paired with a more serious (and confident) facial expression!

My goal with any client, especially female-identifying people, is to help them feel empowered and confident during their photoshoot.

If you feel empowered, it will come through your photos and help you land the job you’ve been dreaming of!

As Sheryl Sandberg said, “We need women at all levels, including the top, to change the dynamic, reshape the conversation, to make sure women’s voices are heard and heeded, not overlooked and ignored.”
